Andrew Logan – cornucopia

Schools Project 9 June – 2 September 2018

Throughout the spring term we invited local primary schools in Denbighshire to come and explore the magical world of the Andrew Logan exhibition at Ruthin Craft Centre, followed by practical workshops with local artists Ceri Wright, Jude Wood and Ben Davis.

Inspired by Logan’s mythical tales, adventures and flamboyant creativity the school pupils with artist Ceri created bright, colourful, and extraordinary pieces of mosaic jewellery using glass, acrylic and recycled objects as well as creating large scale mosaic pieces in the style of Logan.

With artists Ben and Jude the pupils collaborated to create life-size mythical characters inspired by Andrew Logan’s extravagant large scale Goddess ‘Rajas Zandra’ figure in the exhibition. The willow frame structures are covered in bright coloured tissue paper, as a base layer, and embellished with a wide variety of decorative materials. The 11 schools involved were:

Ysgol Carreg Emlyn, Ysgol Betws Gwerfil Goch, Ysgol Llanfair D.C, Ysgol Pant Pastynog, Ysgol Pen Barras, Ysgol Bro Elwern working with artist Ceri Wright.

Ysgol y Borthyn, Ysgol Bro Famau, Ysgol Bryn Clwyd, Ysgol Llanbedr D.C, Rhos Street School working with artists Jude Wood and Ben Davis.

The project engaged with 231 pupils in total.

Ruthin Craft Centre would like to thank all the school pupils, teachers, assistants and the artists for sharing their artistic adventure with us and for creating this fabulous ‘Cornucopia’ in the style of Andrew Logan.

We hope you all enjoy!
