Helfa Gelf: Simeon Jones

September 2016

Bookbinder

Simeon Jones is a hand-craft designer bookbinder, working with traditional techniques and materials alongside original designs to make innovative, handcrafted bindings.

Simeon studied degree in the history of design at Manchester Polytechnic and developed an interest in the late Arts and Crafts movement. A decision to change careers led him back to Ruthin where he met Paul Delrue who trained him in the traditional skill of bookbinding. Simeon is now a licentiate member of Designer Bookbinders.

Many of Simeon’s bindings will be on display during his residency and he will be working on his latest project, binding “Llys Owain Glyndwr”, an epic poem from the famous Welsh poet and contemporary of Owain Glyndwr, Iolo Goch. The text was printed at the renowned private press, Gwasg Gregynog and was one of the last texts to be produced there.

Why not drop in and find out more about the craft of bookbinding, or if you’re interested in learning a little more, book onto one of the free classes on Saturday afternoons.
