Wendy Lawrence : A Journey in Clay
Wendy Lawrence was recently involved in our engagement and learning programme sharing her enthusiasm for Clay through digital demonstrations, studio tours and workshops over the recent Craft Council’s Hey Craft! Weekend. This short exhibition is an opportunity to now experience her ceramic works in the gallery space for yourself.
Wendy’s ongoing delight in texture and surface is key to her oeuvre. Her ideas develop from geological investigation into natural forms found in the landscape and man’s influence on that through the study of archeological sites. Continuous ongoing research and development of new forms, increasing the scale of work, and investigating new surfaces, glazes, engobes and oxides, is all part of her ongoing journey in clay.
Wendy has worked steadily in her studio in Denbigh for over twenty years. She is an active member of North Wales Potters and has participated in many clay events and demonstrations. These range from The International Ceramic Festival in Aberystwyth to Clay Art in Wales, and many events throughout the UK and beyond – including Art in Clay at Hatfield, Earth and Fire at Rufford, the prestigious CAL Ceramic Art London at the Royal College of Art. She has exhibited internationally and Ruthin Craft Centre has shown her work over many years including at SOFA Chicago.
