Craft Club: Half Term: ‘Making your Mark’

with Emma-Jayne Holmes Thursday 28 February 10.30am – 12.30pm £5 please call to book a place

Bookable Craft Club for children aged 5–11

Any image is made-up of marks, which are then arranged by the artist. A lover of mark-making artist Emma-Jayne will lead the playing with paint, and probably other materials, to discover a range of marks which you can then arrange into an art work inspired by the exhibition of Charlotte Hodes ceramics and printmaker.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Textile Folk Art

Saturday 2 March 10.30am – 4.30pm £60 to include lunch

Textile Workshop with Anne Kelly, Award Winning Author of the New Book ‘Textile Folk Art’ (Available to purchase in the Gallery)

Using a variety of found shapes and paper cuts, we will produce a series of folk influenced printed fabrics in the first half of the session. They can be used or converted into greetings cards, or incorporated into a large piece of work.

Vintage / Recycled Cottage Garden

Sunday 3 March 2019 10.30am – 4.30pm £60 to include lunch

Textile Workshops with Anne Kelly, Award Winning Author of the New Book ‘Textile Folk Art’ (Available to purchase in the Gallery)

Search through your collection of floral fabric to applique onto a square sample. A mixture of couching and hand embroidery will be used to complete the work. The sample can then be made up into a cushion cover, tote bag or framed piece.

Enameling Taster Workshops

Saturday 9 March 10.30am – 12.30pm or 1.30pm – 4.30pm £15 please call to book a place

A badge/brooch making workshop designed for novices or experieced enamellers alike. The workshop focuses on wet process enamel decorative techniques.

You will explore simple forming and embossing techniques to texture and shape a simple copper badge/brooch form then explore decorative enamel techniques to embellish it. Within two hours you will transform floppy copper into a beautiful jewellery embellishment to wear away with you.

Adult Masterclass

Saturday 16 March 10.30am – 4.30pm £70 to include all materials and lunch

A workshop for those interested in enamel, particularly those who wish to discover simple and versatile methods of creating metal forms for enamelling.

Participants will learn to fabricate a lidded box from copper foil, exploring ways to make unusual shapes, methods for adding relief to the copper surface and techniques for jointing the box components together.

Approaches to using wet process enamel will be explored to create colourful decorative surfaces on the box made. Alongside the making, discussion will centre around the history and traditions of the 18th Century enamel trade, allowing you to situate your creative production in the past or present.

Family Craft Club: Unusual Objects

Kate Haywood inspired workshop with Lisa Carter Saturday 30 March 10.30am – 12.30pm or 1.30pm – 3.30pm

£5 bookable sessions for children aged 5–11 and their accompanying adult (who will also take part)

Design and assemble your own artwork from a variety of components, inspired by Kate Haywood’s poetic works. In this workshop we will playfully rethink and explore our relationship with everyday objects and peculiar ones from the past through scale, colour, shape and texture to make exciting new forms.

Gallery talk and reading: Charlotte Hodes

and Dr Deryn Rees-Jones Sunday 31 March 2.30pm FREE no need to book

At the closing of the exhibition ‘After the Taking of Tea and other works’ the Artist Charlotte Hodes will give a walk and talk tour of her work; and afterward a reading by Poet Dr Deryn Rees-Jones from the Book ‘and you, Helen’ on which Charlotte and Deryn collaborated.

Craft Club: Easter: ‘Felted Stories’

Inspired by the Exhibition of Primmy Chorley’s work create your own Primmy style colourful and textured tale of your home, family and pets using felted wool and stitch.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Workshop 1: Stitching Stories

with Primmy Chorley and Jessie Chorley Saturday 11 May 10.30am – 4.30pm £125 Lunch included

Using words or a poem as your inspiration to make a stitched keepsake or memento. Please bring your own fabric scraps that you are emotionally attached to. A piece of an old dress or cloth with its own history special to you, any special tucked away treasure that you would like to sew on – old lace, an old button. Bring suitable sewing threads needles and sharp scissors and old wool or rag for stuffing if you want to make your piece three dimensional.

Bookings for these workshops will only be taken from 11.00am on Tuesday 19 February 2019 by telephone on 01824 704774. No bookings or reservations can be made before this date, and places are strictly limited to one place per person. A minimum of 50% deposit must be paid at the time of booking

Workshop 2: Appliqué and Simple Stitch

with Primmy Chorley and Jessie Chorley Sunday 12 May 10.30am – 4.30pm £125 Lunch included

Using simple stitches and working directly onto the cloth to create a story picture. Please bring a piece of old woollen blanket or suitable cloth for the background, or an old piece of linen sheet, and your own personal fabric scraps that have special memories or meaning for you. A piece of an old quilt or your mums old wartime dress or a baby gown. Also bring suitable sewing threads, needles and sharp scissors.

Please note the majority of materials are available for free in the Education Room but please bring your own treasured fabric, buttons or threads to make your work a personal memento.
