Dr. Nigel Hurlstone:

‘Deviant’ Embroidery' 21 October and 22 October 10.30am – 4.30pm £70.00 (per day) Includes light lunch

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Nigel Hurlstone from the Cusp exhibition who will be offering 2x one day workshops. Enjoy just one day or a full weekend of textiles.

Emphasis will be placed on participants investigating the notion of ‘deviance’ in their work. Nigel will demonstrate that stitch, and specifically embroidery, has a long tradition of being a subversive ‘craft’ that can be at odds with commonplace perceptions of embroidery as being domestic, cosy and unchallenging.

The workshop will not be concerned with participants realizing a finished piece of work, but will encourage a testing out of a range of ideas and new approaches that will help to inform future work and ambitions.

The workshops are aimed at either beginners or more experienced textile practitioners.
