“The pieces in the exhibition are drawing based responses to places around North Wales where I live. Most of the images in the exhibition are of areas in and around Bethesda, Pentraeth on Anglesey where I grew up.
The images are grounded in observation, reflecting upon the energy and atmosphere of the places visited and my love of the landscape’s geometry, structure and architecture. They often contain and reflect upon moments experienced while in the landscape and my aim is to capture and recreate the poignancy of those moments; to make them permanent and somehow make sense of their significance.
The smaller pieces are often begun within the landscape and then further developed in the studio. The larger pieces are generally developed exclusively in the studio.
The drawings are often built up over time and layered with various media, processes and techniques including glazes, to bring out certain elements within the image.”
