Eluned Glyn is inspired by the form of classic ceramics from the 21st Century. The Bauhaus and Cubist movements have been her points of reference, using their concept of well-considered forms that concentrates on the bare fundamental values of design. Within her work, she aims to combine the division between fine art, craft and applied arts and give ceramics the same status as other art forms. By deconstructing and re-creating classical Victorian forms from charity shops there is a chance encounter between newly created ceramic objects and their ancestors. The collection aims to be both beautifully engineered and simplistic reflecting the redundancy of colour that are typically present in modernist design. The forms speak for themselves, and the decorative, colourful qualities of Victorian ceramics are cast aside – but retaining the forms inspired by historical ceramics, which gives a ghost-like feel to the work.

The ghost-like simplicity of the collection reflects the redundancy of colour that are typically absent in modernist design. The forms speak for themselves, and the decorative, colourful qualities of Victorian ceramics are cast aside – leaving a faint trail of past ceramics to these contemporary ceramic objects.

It is the marriage of form and function that intrigues her and the distortion of the domestic object, which is familiar, yet foreign in form.
