Kim Dewsbury

During the last decade Kim has returned to her passion for painting, after spending several years organising and curating exhibitions in North Wales. From Cornwall originally, but raised in the Midlands, Kim returned to Falmouth in 1975 to study Fine Art. Married to the painter Gerald Dewsbury, Llangwm in North Wales has been their home for many years.

Kim is really excited by all the possibilities opening up again in her painting – it is primarily an exploration of what she sees in front of her, and while enjoying the physical properties of paint she aims to give a solidity and reality to her subject matter – and a significance to objects and ideas which form the work.

“Inspired by my rural surroundings – I value that first hand contact with nature; my sketchbooks are filled with walks, insects, clouds, natural ephemera, etc. Patterns and textures fascinate: the velvety skin of a peach, the undulating folds of a distant hillside, the patina of a well thumbed book …. Everything has a story to tell”.

Gerald Dewsbury

Gerald graduated from Falmouth School of Art in 1980 and moved to Wales in 1981 in search of a wider and more varied landscape, becoming a full time professional painter.

Awarded various prizes over the years, including joint winner of the Lle Celf in the National Eisteddfod, Gerald has work in numerous private and public collections, both in Britain and abroad. He works regularly towards exhibitions and to commission, which has included a series of six landscapes completed in 2005 for the Sultan of Oman’s new Palace in Muscat.

Gerald was elected to the RCA in 2003. He exhibits regularly at the Twenty Twenty Gallery in Ludlow; Ffin y Parc, Llanrwst; The Lion Street Gallery in Hay on Wye and the RCA in Conwy.

“2020 did not turn out to be the year we were all expecting. Usually I am out and about a lot, exploring and discovering and experiencing whatever I can in the landscape around me… This year it has been in bursts of activity when I can and peppered with enforced stints of painting and reflection in the studio”.
