Raising the Bar with Debbie Smyth

July – October 2016

Show & Tell Exhibitions

As part of the Raising the Bar programme this year we offered an opportunity for talented young people, studying art and design AS/A level pupils in Denbighshire to work alongside textile artist Debbie Smyth to create a large-scale threaded installation inspired by Ruthin’s locality.

During which, the participants involved were offered the experience to explore the realms of drawing, textile art and spatial art, as well as being involved in the full creative process from the initial drawing to plotting pins to threading the image.

The work experience placement is a new addition to our Raising the Bar programme, which offers hands-on gallery experience to inspire the next generation of young practitioners who may wish to pursue a career within the visual or applied arts in the near future.

The work produced during the 2-week placements will be on display in Studio 5.
