Get inspired! Get involved!

What is Craft? celebratory exhibition

18 February – 23 April 2017

To celebrate the conclusion of our 2 year What is Craft? programme, along with the opening of our MAKE exhibition in our 3 main galleries, this exhibition documents the journey of our 2 year audience development and resource legacy, funded by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

During our journey we have found a variety of ways of involving a whole range of new audiences in the work of the Centre, which all started with the basic question of What is Craft? Followed by:

Who does it?
Why do they do it?
Why does it matter?

We asked people to: Get Inspired! Get Involved!

This exhibition is a visual celebration of all the activities, events and community projects that have taken place during the project. The exhibition also includes a documentary film with interviews from people involved in the project, produced by Idle Fire Productions.

Groups involved have included:

– Messy Play sessions – Parents and toddlers groups
– Taste of Craft sessions – for people aged 60+
– Designer Maker – with young people at Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
– And many more…

During the 4 seasons, over 2 years of this programme, the interactive space(s) have been open and free for 560 days. We have recorded a total of 28,607 visitors so far, and we are still counting…

Ruthin Craft Centre would like to thank all the Artists / Makers, Craft Ambassadors and especially to the community groups who have been involved and participated in the project.

The What is Craft? project has been funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
