Ruthin Craft Centre is delighted to be involved with Ceramic Wales 2018 and as a build up to the main event from the 13 July to Sunday 15 July 2018 at Glyndwr School of Creative Arts we will be hosting a pre-event at the Craft Centre on Sunday the 8 July.
The morning session is an open studio event with an opportunity to find out more about the main event itself and to preview some of the work that will be featured on the maker’s stands at Glyndwr. Pop in at any time between 10.00am and 12.00pm to find out more.
The afternoon session will include a talk and demonstration by Ceramicist Justine Allison to coincide with her solo exhibition ‘The Language of Clay – Shifting Lines’ at Ruthin Craft Centre (as featured in Ceramic Review, issue 291.)
About: Justine Allison works solely with hand built porcelain – creating semi functional pieces. Her work addresses the boundaries between function and decoration, looking at objects that are used on a daily basis (like the form of a jug) and creates pieces that move away from function and are more concerned with the aesthetic and the visual.
The work is very much concerned with the simplicity and beauty of the clay, incorporating pattern and texture as well as the glaze to create subtle, unique variations. Thinness and movement are very important in each of Justine’s pieces.
Talk and Demonstrations – Justine Allison: The afternoon demonstration will include the making process from wedging the clay, rolling out the clay until it is very thin (approximately 1mm), cutting out and hand building of a tapered piece. As well as demonstrating the construction of a jug.

2.00pm Part 1 demonstration
