Ruthin Craft Centre in partnership with Helfa Gelf / Art Trail will be presenting makers and craftspeople in residence during September 2018.
Would you like to be involved with Helfa Gelf this year?
Helfa Gelf Art Trail is the largest open studio event in Wales and are now recruiting artists for its 13th year! Are you an artist living in Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire or Wrexham? Then there are plenty of exciting opportunities awaiting you, including the Ruthin Craft Centre Residency Programmes in September 2018 as described below.
Helfa Gelf Residencies at Ruthin Craft Centre
An open call opportunity for makers and craftspeople in North Wales. In partnership with Helfa Gelf we are looking for makers to participate in our two residency programmes this September. Each maker in residency will have their own (studio 2) space to make and showcase their work throughout the residency programme. (12 days in total)
(Please be aware that this is a non-invigilated space and Ruthin Craft Centre is not liable for any damages or losses during your residency period if you are not present whilst the space is open to the public.)
The 2018 residency programme will need to relate to our current engagement programme called ‘Craft Counts’ – funded by Art Council of Wales.
As we are celebrating our 10th year anniversary since the re-launch of Ruthin Craft Centre this summer, we would like an element of the residency this year to be based on one or more of our previous shows to celebrate the 100 plus exhibitions we have shown during the past 10 years at the Centre. Did you love a certain ceramics show? Were you in awe of Jewellery, Textiles, Wood or Glass? Your chosen exhibition might relate to your own practice? Sharing the same material, process and/or themes.
Help us celebrate our anniversary year and outline your proposed idea/project for this year’s residency theme in the application (full details on how to apply below)
Residency 1: will take place from Thursday 6th – Monday 17th September 2018
Residency 2: will take place from Wednesday 19th – Sunday 30th September 2018
During the residency period you’ll be required to design and deliver the following elements on both of the Helfa Gelf weekends and these will be promoted within the Ruthin Craft Centre engagement programme.
– An ‘open studio’ experience on the Friday and Sunday where visitors can call in and see the craftsperson at work.
– Some form of practical participation session (a drop in session) on each of the Saturday’s.
The Fee – The successful applicant will receive a fee of £400 for the residence (the fee includes the devising and delivering the participation sessions and materials)
How to apply – Please email a brief outline of your proposed project (300 words max), artist statement, CV and 3 images of your work to Rachel Rosen, Helfa Gelf Project Coordinator via e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
Deadline for application is 5.00pm on Friday 6th of July 2018.
Please note: You will need to join Helfa Gelf / Art Trail in order to be able to participate for the Helfa Gelf Ruthin Craft Centre Residency programme.
If you want to apply for these residencies, it’s not too late to change the dates of your Open Studio if they conflict, but please do this as soon as possible.
