Portfolio – block 2: Jennifer Barker, Brian Duffy

& Verity Pulford – Glass – FOR 14–18 YEAR OLDS 13 & 14 August 11.00am – 4.00pm Each 2-day block is £20 or attend all 3 blocks (6 workshops) for £50

Jennifer Barker & Brian Duffy – Monday 13 August
10.00am – Pick up at Ruthin Craft Centre.
11.00am – 4.00pm – Workshop at Glyndŵr University.
5.00pm – Arrive back at Ruthin Craft Centre.
Transport will be provided from Ruthin Craft Centre to Glyndŵr University.

Jennifer Barker is a Senior Lecturer at Glyndŵr University school of Art specialising in glass. She is skilled in working kiln work glass and cold work architectural glass applications. She runs a successful Architectural Glass Business in Liverpool City Centre.

Brian Duffy has a BA and MA in Contemporary Applied Arts and has spent thirty years in the glass industry producing large architectural commissions alongside teaching. Brian has a keen interest in garden design creating award winning sculptures for RHS show gardens at Chelsea Flower show, Hampton Court and Tatton Flower Show amongst others.

The workshop – In the first session of the glass workshop at Glyndŵr University students will be able to create a set of glass coasters using their own designs. The design will be etched onto glass using the sandblasting method. In the second session we will be drawing ‘sgraffito’ onto sheet glass and again using sand blasting to etch the image into the glass panel. Silver stain will be added to create tonal elements before the pieces are fired in the glass kiln.

Verity Pulford – Tuesday 14 August
11.00am – 4.00pm at Ruthin Craft Centre.

Verity Pulford is a Glass Artist based in North Wales. She creates wall pieces, functional ware, architectural and public art commissions using fusing, sandblasting, hand-painting and etching.

The workshop – In this workshop, at Ruthin Craft Centre, students will look at the work of Andrew Logan and his use of pattern, this will lead into looking at mandalas, their forms and meanings. Students will design and make a hand-painted glass mandalas using coloured paints and frits. The work created will be taken back to her studio and fired by Verity.
