Lisa Carter

14 January – 11 March 2016

Studio 6

Lisa Carter lives and works in Llannefydd, North Wales. She originally trained in Theatre Design at Central St Martins College of Art, spending over 10 years in London in theatre and advertising design. She has received two grants from the Arts Council of Wales and exhibited in the National Eisteddfod of Wales and the 2015 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Lisa Carter produces paintings, drawings and installations. She often uses everyday objects for her work such as envelopes and simple tools, as well as drawing and measuring equipment used by different professions.

Lisa will use her residency at Ruthin Craft Centre to continue her investigation into how objects, spaces and the language of painting have the potential to assume multiple meanings beyond how we use or access them.

‘During the residency I am hoping to learn from the environment and expertise of the Craft Centre to build on my current practise of using the found object and the qualities of the incidental in my work. I wish to use my stay to reflect on Craft and those that make; the tools, narratives, ideas, materials and processes and through adopting and adapting I am keen to expand on my current processes by developing methods of assembling and re-appropriating objects and materials.’ – Lisa Carter

Over the past years Lisa has led many workshops on behalf of Ruthin Craft Centre including the Lost in Art programme. During this residency Lisa will run a series of events to coincide with her new body of work.
