David Frith & Margaret Frith – Ceramics

24 November 2018 – 27 January 2019

Running a Pottery for 55 years is quite a feat and David and Margaret are an amazing phenomena; their longevity springs from a dynamic combination of talent and hard work. They have exhibited all over the world and their work is in many major collections. Teaching courses from their studio in Denbigh to ceramic students and recreational potters from far and wide has brought much business to North Wales. This exhibition showcases their work in the year when they both celebrate their 75th birthdays: their enthusiasm for life and art is an inspiration to us all.

Publications David Frith, Margaret Frith 50 Years of Brookhouse Pottery

David and Margaret have been making beautiful pots for fifty years: their work is firmly located in the contemporary but expresses the legacy of diverse traditions. Having mastered the thrown form and firing of seductive reduction glazes they developed wax resist to facilitate the layering of glazes with painted motif and slip trailing to give depth and resonance to the apparently effortless surface decoration. Their pots are complimentary in tone, form and appropriateness for the domestic space; these two ceramic artists work in different dimensions. Margaret produces delicate forms with painted or carved motifs in porcelain and David works on a larger scale in high fired stoneware.
