Discussion Panellists – Helen Rees Leahy, Nigel Hurlstone and Steve Doherty

Artist Nigel Hurlstone’s exhibition ‘The Wind From the Feet of the Dead’ is thought-provoking. It offers a unique take on issues of care, chronic illness and how we deal with them. It features stories that explore the challenges of making life choices, changing relationships, power imbalances and the isolation of care. Despite the serious nature of the issues each story is told with a comedic lens, making them both informative and entertaining.

As part of this we would like to invite you to an afternoon event in the gallery chaired by Professor Helen Rees Leahy with Steve Doherty and Nigel Hurlstone in conversation.

It will be an opportunity to hear some of the stories depicted (written by Nigel, translated, produced and directed by Steve and staring such luminaries as Sue Johnstone, Issy Suttie, Rebecca Wilson, Sion Pritchard, Rhian Green and Tudur Owen); and how ‘craft’ and the ‘art of making’ might be valued, recognised, and integrated into planning for health and social care. Rather than a traditional presentation with Q&A, this event is designed to encourage conversation and mutual sharing of thoughts and comments.

It aims to explore how the Health and Social Care sectors might utilise the skills of artists and creatives to deliver solutions for health and wellbeing. This is an opportunity to engage and be part of a conversation that could have a real impact on the future of healthcare.

The event will conclude with tea and coffee in the education room, and a further opportunity to network.
