Whether her pieces are wheel-thrown or hand-built, Sarah is drawn to the Japanese aesthetic of simple organic shapes and finding beauty in the imperfect. She’s constantly experimenting with form, texture and application of the glaze, trying to move her work to its next level but with an eye on the simplicity of form and decoration. There is always a practical purpose – the idea that we can use beautiful, handmade items in our everyday life is very important to her.

With her recent collection Sarah has taken inspiration from the rugged landscape and beautiful stone of the houses and the walls around her home in North Wales. Two different stoneware clays are harmonised by their natural forms, mark making, and the glaze and its application. The off-white glaze is soft in colour and texture, and either dipped or applied with a natural flow. Some of these one-off pieces are decorated with irregular shapes echoing patterns formed within the dry-stone walls in her local countryside.

P'un a yw ei darnau wedi'u taflu ag olwyn neu wedi'u hadeiladu â llaw, caiff Sarah ei denu at esthetig Japaneaidd o siapiau organig syml a chanfod harddwch yn yr amherffaith. Mae hi’n arbrofi’n gyson gyda ffurf, gwead a chymhwysiad y gwydredd, gan geisio symud ei gwaith i’w lefel nesaf ond gyda llygad ar symlrwydd ffurf ac addurniadau. Mae pwrpas ymarferol bob amser - mae'r syniad y gallwn ddefnyddio eitemau hardd, wedi'u gwneud â llaw yn ein bywyd bob dydd yn bwysig iawn iddi.

Gyda’i chasgliad diweddar mae Sarah wedi cael ei hysbrydoli gan dirwedd garw a cherrig hardd y tai a’r waliau o amgylch ei chartref yng Ngogledd Cymru. Mae dau glai crochenwaith gwahanol yn cael eu cysoni gan eu ffurfiau naturiol, gwneud marciau, a'r gwydredd a'r defnydd ohono. Mae'r gwydredd oddi ar y gwyn yn feddal o ran lliw a gwead, a naill ai wedi'i drochi neu wedi'i osod â llif naturiol. Mae rhai o'r darnau unigol hyn wedi'u haddurno â siapiau afreolaidd sy'n adleisio patrymau a ffurfiwyd o fewn waliau sychion ei chefn gwlad lleol.
